Now y’all know breakfast foods are all the rage in my house. This French toast casserole easily holds steady in our top 3 go-to breakfast/brunch options when we need a filling weekend breakfast, or are hosting guests for brunch.
This French toast casserole is made with pieces of sourdough bread covered in an egg mixture, topped with a streusel topping, and baked to perfection! An easy holiday or weekend breakfast your family will love!
Can you freeze French Toast Casserole?
To freeze: Place French toast casserole in a freezer safe air tight container. The casserole will last up to 2 months in the freezer. When you’re ready to eat thaw overnight in the fridge, and bake casserole in the oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
Can I add toppings?
Yes, you sure can! You can add any of your favorite additions to create numerous variations of this beloved casserole classic.
Sweet: Blueberries, strawberries, bananas, Nutella, thinly sliced apples, chopped pecans
Savory: Sausage, bacon, ham and cheese, or chorizo

French Toast Casserole
Ingredients
- 1 loaf sourdough bread
- 8 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup sugar
Streusel Topping
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup salted butter cold, cut into small pieces
Instructions
- Grease a 9x13 pan or baking dish.
- Cut loaf into cubes and place evenly in the greased 9x13 pan.
- In a bowl, mix together eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract and sugar. Pour evenly over bread.
- Cover your pan with Saran Wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- Mix together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Mix in butter until crumbly and place in a Ziploc bag and refrigerate overnight as well.
- Take pan and Ziploc out when ready to bake. Sprinkle crumbly mixture evenly over the bread.
- Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
