Cooking With Kids: Sugar Cookies From Scratch!

April 8, 2020 · In: Food, Motherhood

Sugar Cookies With Buttercream Frosting

Since we are still quarantined at home with no ending in sight, I made a list of mother/son activities for my oldest and I to partake in. First on the list – making sugar cookies and frosting from scratch. Why you ask? I blame Instagram. Lately, the most creative humans have been showcasing their talents on social media. For some reason my feed has been full of cookie baking/decorating. Deep down in my soul I knew I’d be great at cookie decorating. So what better day to start than today right? We opted for a buttercream frosting since it is delicious and easier to work with than royal icing (I plan on making royal icing in the near future).

Adding Landon into the mix was a special treat of it’s own. Check out the video below, along with the recipes and supplies details.

Supplies Used

  • Cookie Sheet
  • Silicone Baking Mat
  • Rolling Pin
  • Food Coloring by Wilton & McCormick
  • Disposable Pastry Bags
  • Piping Tip #1 and #3
  • Icing Bag Ties
  • Spatula
  • Hand Mixer
  • Cookie Cutters
  • Cookie Decorating Turntable

If you take action after clicking one of these links, I’ll earn some coffee money. Which of course I promise to drink while creating more helpful content like this. 🙂

Landon and I had so much fun with this recipe. The hubby even joined in on the fun 🙂 We made this a 2 day affair. I highly recommend allowing enough time to make and color the frosting. That was the most time consuming part for us. My plan is to keep practicing my decorating skills so I can make a pretty batch for Harper’s 1st birthday in September. Of course I will let you know how that goes.
