One of my goals for 2020 is to read at least 1 book a month. I find enjoyment in curling up on the couch or lounging outside with a good book and a nice cup of coffee. Since June is only a few days away, I wanted to share a few of my favorite books. What better way to jumpstart a new month than cracking open a new book?

I absolutely adore former First Lady Mrs. Michelle Obama. She always carries herself with such poise and grace. In this memoir she invites readers into her world. This includes her childhood growing up in the South Side of Chicago, her role as a mother, and of course her work as The First Lady of the United States of America. This book was deeply inspiring and Mrs. Obama provided a constant reminder to continue defying expectations no matter what odds are stacked against you. I also downloaded the audio book so I can reference
This book was deeply moving and powerful. The book is centered around Stevenson as a young lawyer. Stevenson founded the Equal Justice Initiative which he dedicated his work to defending those desperate in need. One of his first cases was Mr. Walter McMillian. Mr. McMillian was sentenced to die for a murder he insisted he did not commit. The true story follows Stevenson on his pursuit of true justice.
Admittedly, I’m a sucker for a good murder mystery. This book did not disappoint! The story is set in the 1950s in rural North Carolina. The story revolves around a young woman named Kya who lives alone in nature. When a young man is found dead, locals think Kya is to blame.
I don’t want to give too much away, but I could not put this book down. I recommend having a friend read it with you so you can chat about it. Of course you can always give me a shout, I am always game to talk about books. 🙂
Now some of you may be thinking, “I know this woman did not put a children’s book on this list.” I sure did! My husband and I went shopping at Target (when you actually could shop normally) and were browsing the book section as usual. Low and behold, we stumbled across this gem. When I tell you we were both cracking up laughing. I had real tears and borderline peed my pants. I kid you not! Even if you don’t have children, get this book. The pure enjoyment from reading this is priceless.
