My husband Andrew and I have been married for just about 2 years now. As you know from my first blog post we are raising our 12 year old son, Landon, and our 6 month old daughter, Harper.
With that being said, it has been extremely difficult (dare I say impossible) to have date night. Looking back years ago when Andrew and I started dating and later entered our engagement bliss, date nights were weekly and something we looked forward to with great excitement.
Well, last week I reached my breaking point and found myself literally screaming for some 1:1 time with my hubby. At that moment, I decided I was going to make a date jar. Now some of you may be asking, “what the heck is a date jar?” It is a mason jar filled with awesome date night in ideas to enjoy with your partner.
One afternoon, Andrew and I sat down together and made a list of 40 date night in ideas we would love to experience together. The cherry on top was the uninterrupted time we spent together creating the list – and the list is quite spectacular if I do say so myself! The list includes fun activities like an indoor picnic, painting with a twist, baking a new dessert together, and even strip poker. I don’t even know how to play poker, so I guess we will be playing strip goldfish. Either way, you see where I am going with this.
Note: Make sure to decide which day of the week you and your partner will hold date night in. This will hold you both accountable. You can also have date mornings/afternoons. Examples include a brunch picnic, baking an elegant pastry, complete a puzzle together, enjoy high tea. The list is endless!
Below I will walk you through how I made our date jar. Feel free to swap materials and use what you have on hand.
